What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, custom-made aligners to gradually straighten your teeth and improve your bite. Each aligner is designed to make small, controlled adjustments to the position of your teeth.

Because Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic, they are much less noticeable than traditional metal braces. The aligners are also removable, allowing you to take them out when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Your Invisalign treatment begins with a digital scan or impressions of your teeth. Drs. Lankford or Sierra will use this information, along with advanced 3-D treatment-planning technology, to develop a customized plan for moving your teeth into their desired positions.

You will receive a series of custom-made Invisalign aligners. Each set is worn for a prescribed period before moving on to the next set, gradually guiding your teeth toward their planned positions.

For Invisalign to work effectively, you should generally wear your aligners for 20–22 hours per day, removing them primarily for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. You’ll have periodic appointments with Drs. Lankford or Sierra so they can monitor your progress and make sure your treatment is proceeding as planned.

Treatment time varies depending on your individual needs and the amount of tooth movement required. Your dentist can provide a more specific estimate after evaluating your teeth and bite.
