Dr. Melissa Sierra has always believed the dental office should feel safe, calm, and welcoming—especially for children and patients with special needs. Originally from Colombia, she moved to Houston with her family and was inspired by both her father and her own orthodontist to pursue dentistry. That early influence stayed with her, and she chose pediatric dentistry so she could care for children of every age and need with skill, patience, and compassion. She has a particular interest in providing dental care for children and patients with special needs, taking the time to understand each patient’s individual needs and create a comfortable, supportive experience. She earned her DDS from Institución Universitaria Colegios de Colombia (UNICOC), then completed her pediatric dentistry residency and Master of Science in Dentistry at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.

Dr. Sierra focuses on building trust with young patients, particularly those who feel anxious or require additional support during dental visits. She understands that every child communicates and responds differently, and she takes a patient, individualized approach to helping children and families feel comfortable in the dental setting. She finds it most rewarding when a child leaves feeling proud and confident. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the Hispanic Dental Association. Just as important, she wants parents to feel supported—not judged. Dr. Sierra believes healthy habits are learned over time, and her goal is to be an advocate for children as they build simple, lasting brushing and oral-care routines. Visits are meant to be educational and encouraging, so families leave with a clear plan and no guilt.

Outside the office, Dr. Sierra and her fiancé—who happens to be an orthodontist—spend time with their Bernedoodle, Bodhi. If it were up to her, there would also be a pet monkey; it has been her favorite animal since childhood. In her free time she photographs family and friends, spends time outdoors, tries new things, eats sushi, and travels. You can often find her watching Wimbledon or cheering on her favorite soccer teams.
